A few words about

Anna Iskra Mietniów Primary School

http://spmietniow.edupage.org

Here are some photos of the building of our school in the winter time and in the summer time.

There are three floors: the ground floor, the first floor and the second one. On the ground floor there is a gym, a cloakroom and a classroom for Grade “0” students. These are six-year-olds from the nearby kindergarten who are to enter the First Grade of our school next year. We don’t see them very often because they mostly spend their time in the classroom or in the kindergarten, playing, drawing and doing all sorts of other things. The gym is for our Physical

Education lessons. There is also a playground outside, so when the weather is good we can play sports there.

On the first floor there are 4 classrooms for Grades 4, 5 and 6: one for History classes, one for Maths and Computer classes, one for Science and English and the last one for Polish. Sometimes, we learn other subjects in these classrooms too. This is because our school is not big enough for all the subjects to be taught in classrooms especially prepared for them. So, sometimes we have Technology or Religious Studies in the Science  or History classroom. On Floor 1 there is also the Secretary’s Office, the Head Master’s Office and the Teachers’ Room.

On the second floor there are 4 large classrooms for the pupils from Grades 1, 2 and 3, one small classroom for extra activities and the Library. Each grade has their own Main Teacher who teaches them most of the things they are to learn. They have RS and English with other teachers. On each floor there are toilets.

Lessons start at 8:20 in the morning. We usually have 6 classes a day. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes and breaks are 10 minutes long. We spend our breaks in the corridors or on the playground. Teachers make sure that we behave properly and that we have some rest in between classes.

During our classes, we learn plenty of things from our teachers, work with copybooks and exercise books, write a lot of information in our notebooks, ask and answer many a question. Sometimes we go on school trips. Some of the teachers are really demanding so we have to be very well prepared to get a 6 note (the best note, for excellent students only), the worst note is a 1.

We go to school from Monday to Friday and usually have 26 lessons a week. On Saturday and Sunday the school is closed.

Here’s a photo of a group of children from our school taking part in a project called ‘Our Chance’.

And here we have a team of pupils from Mietniów Primary School who won the 2nd Prize at the 10thAnnual Sports Contest in the memory of Barbara Strzelecka, a late PE teacher of our school. 16 teams took part in the contest.

This is the portrait of Anna Iskra, the patron of our school.

Born in Mietniów, she was an illiterate. She emigrated to the United States of America at the age of 16 to earn a living. She used to say that her life would have been much easier if only she knew how to read and write. That is why she was saving her money to send it to Poland so that they would build a school in Mietniów. She died in a road accident. The first building of our school was built with the money she left. Every year we remember our patron and thank her for the school we can attend.

Please, share with us some information about your school. What does it look like in your country?
